45th Circuit – Law Forum

Upcoming Event – FALL 2010

More info…

The rapid development of Ottawa’s technology community has given rise to a growing demand for increased understanding and competence in a wide range of legal issues of particular importance to technology firms. This technology legal community embraces in-house counsel, technology specialists in private practices, public sector counsel, as well as a spectrum of other company officials with a need or interest in emerging legal issues.

The 45th Circuit: A Professional Development Session

Now commencing its seventh year of operation, the 45th Circuit is now another part of the infrastructure of the region, initiated by the Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation and aimed at ensuring growth and prosperity in the technology sector. The 45th Circuit is a forum for professionals in the Ottawa technology sector to learn about and discuss contemporary legal issues affecting the corporation. It’s also an excellent place for business networking and for the creation of synergistic relationships.

The 45th Circuit Session:

Sessions are normally held on the first Tuesday of the month. Each begins with a stand-up lunch/networking at 11:45 a.m., and a presentation starting at 12:30 p.m. The meeting ends at 1:30 p.m. sharp!

Meeting Topics/Speakers:

A committee of legal specialists select a range of topics that have appeal to both in-house counsel and the broader technology legal community. Speakers are legal professionals from both the private and public sectors who have established a reputation for depth of knowledge and perspective on the topic for which they present. Speakers are invited from the Ottawa area as well as from the rest of North America with assistance of some of our sponsors.

Who Should Attend:

All members of the technology business community are encouraged to attend, not only executives of companies developing and selling products, but also of companies providing goods and services in this sector. Members of the press and communications sector are very welcome. (The purpose is, after all, to create self-awareness and strength through networking.) Representatives of pertinent government agencies and the academic community are also invited. Out-of-town executives are encouraged to time their visits to Ottawa to enable them to attend. Companies just getting started are particularly welcome.

2009-2010 Program Committee Members:

Eric Smith, Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP (Chair); Christine Maher, March Networks, Jeremy Farr, BLG; Lorraine Mastersmith, Perley-Robertson, Hill & McDougall LLP, Jeremy deBeer, University of Ottawa; Grant Jameson, Ogilvy Renault; Tom Prowse, Gowlings; and Stephanie Spruston, Cognition LLP.
