Education Support and Community Outreach

OCRI has been a recognized leader in developing innovative educational programs since its inception in 1984. OCRI works with over 100 partners in Ottawa community, including the local school boards, colleges and universities, to deliver programs that support student learning at all levels, from kindergarten to PhD.

Many of our initiatives provide direct service to Ottawa area elementary and secondary schools. Other programs benefit schools, colleges and universities.

Through the Ottawa-Carleton Learning Foundation (OCLF), the charitable arm of OCRI, we channel funding, volunteers, and other resources to schools in the Ottawa region to support students in need.

Labour Force Development

Having access to talented people is a key success factor for employers. Having a community workforce plan, and strategic projects that enhance the local talent pool, will give Ottawa a competitive advantage.

TalentWorks, OCRI’s workforce development program, provides community-wide strategic workforce planning and integrated project support for targeted sectors of the Ottawa economy.

Accelerating Broadband Connectivity

Discover how we’re working to make Ottawa the world’s most connected city.

Ottawa is a 'smart and intelligent' city - a city where information and communication technologies are being applied in new ways to empower residents and institutions, provide a competitive edge for business, and improve the quality of life. Home to more than 1,800 advanced-technology firms — which are responsible for 90 percent of Canada's telecommunications research — Ottawa features an impressive optical, cable and DSL network infrastructure.

Through the SmartCapital initiative, OCRI works with more than 40 industry, government and community partners to build local and global connections through ICT.

Current sub projects operating under the SmartCapital umbrella include:

digitalOttawa – Ottawa’s online forum for the digital media industry.

Altogether Ottawa – A free online community collaboration tool for the residents of Ottawa.
